By day, Adam Gussow ’79 *00 is a mild-mannered Ole Miss professor who teaches about American literature. After office hours, he’s on fire — as one of the country’s leading harmonica players and the “Adam” of the blues duo Satan and Adam.
PAW writer Mark F. Bernstein ’83 met up with Gussow at the Hill Country Harmonica festival in the spring, and tells his story vividly in our pages. To truly understand Gussow, however, you must visit PAW Online, at paw.princeton.edu.
That’s where you can hear Gussow, as his music plays behind a slide show of him in action. That and other multimedia features at PAW Online are largely the work of staffer Brett Tomlinson, who recently became PAW’s first digital editor. He and Ray Ollwerther ’71, PAW’s managing editor, are responsible for our growing presence online, both on our own website and in social media such as Facebook (www.facebook.com/pawprinceton) and Twitter (twitter.com/pawprinceton).
I’m a newspaper person at heart. I love print: the feel of its pages, the look of its images, as well as the power of its words. But the online world provides more dimensions to the stories you’ll find in our printed pages, and a place to carry on an active discussion about those stories. Readers who want a full taste of Princeton’s opening week will get it by viewing our slide show of Opening Exercises, the Pre-rade, and the freshman Step Sing, for example. (Our special Reunions videos and slide shows remain available; be sure to view the clips of alumni comics performing at PAW’s comedy show, “Funny Princeton LIVE.”)
PAW’s Weekly Blog is updated daily with news and features, including expanded football coverage. Gregg Lange ’70’s “Rally ’Round the Cannon” column on Princeton history is found on our site, too — in Lange’s distinctive voice as a podcast, as well as in text. And recent alumni deaths are posted on our site, in advance of publication of memorials in the print PAW. For links to each issue’s Web Exclusives, sign up for our email alerts at paw@princeton.edu.
To build community, we list alumni blogs on our site. About 110 are included, including blogs by popular alumni journalists and less-known alumni with intriguing things to say; they represent the Class of 1950 (Roland Minda’s The Retirement Dance) through the Class of 2010. If you’d like your blog link to be added to our list, send it to paw@princeton.edu. We also provide a listing of alumni nonprofits: Send contact information to the same address.
We invite you to post online comments on our articles and letters, and remembrances of classmates to accompany memorials. Some of these comments may appear in print.
