A judge for the United States District Court for Massachusetts issued a temporary restraining order, pausing the Department of Energy’s proposed grant cuts to universities across the country, including Princeton.
On April 11, the Energy Department announced that it would begin limiting “financial support of ‘indirect costs’ of DOE research funding to 15%,” according to a department press release.
The American Association of Universities — a group that includes Princeton, MIT, and Harvard — filed a suit against the Department of Energy April 15. The temporary restraining order today means that the Department cannot modify or cut funding pending a hearing.
The hearing is scheduled for April 28.
