Actress Virginia Mayo is crowned by class president J. Lewis Kirby Jr. ’46 as the queen of the Bicentennial Class at a dance in Procter Hall on April 25, 1947. Her escort for the weekend was C. Grove Smith ’46. According to a May 9, 1947, PAW article, Smith and Mayo spent the weekend being photographed, interviewed, and attending parties. Later that year she starred with Danny Kaye in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
