LEARNING TO FLY: Ashley Doran Northup ’99 spends four hours each week at Emerald City Trapeze Arts in Seattle practicing her skills as a “flyer.” She also does strength conditioning to help her improve, but says “the hardest thing about trapeze is the mental strength that it requires.” She credits the trapeze for helping her to “fly” out of a slump: “Trapeze helped me find myself [and] people that I adore,” says Northup, whose circus name is Tiger Flyer. “And I get to cover myself in glitter and sequins while I do it!”
