How did Princetonians running for office in 2024 fare?

All race calls are from the Associated Press. This piece will be updated as races are called.

Herb Conaway ’85, Democrat

Conaway won election to the U.S. House seat in New Jersey (NJ-3) that was previously held by Andy Kim (D-NJ).

Ted Cruz ’92, Republican

Cruz won reelection to his Senate seat in Texas. He picked up a double-digit margin and received greatly increased support from Latinos when compared to 2018.

Vince Fong *03, Republican

Fong won his House seat in California’s 20th District, the seat once held by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Fong was initially sent to the House following a special election to replace McCarthy after he resigned.

Glenn Ivey ’83, Democrat

Ivey won his race for reelection to the House with a margin larger than 50% in Maryland’s 4th District.

Raja Krishnamoorthi ’95, Democrat

Krishnamoorthi won reelection to his House seat in Illinois (IL-7) by double digits.

Dave McCormick *94 *96, Republican

On the afternoon of Nov. 7, McCormick won the race for the Pennsylvania Senate seat. Incumbent Democrat Bob Casey has yet to concede the race. 

Joe Salerno ’84, Democrat

Salerno lost the race for New Jersey’s 2nd House District by double digits to Jeff VanDrew, the incumbent Republican who changed his registration from Democrat in 2020.

Terri Sewell ’86, Democrat

Sewell won reelection to her House seat in Alabama’s 7th District.

George Whitesides ’96, Democrat

On the evening of Nov. 11, incumbent Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA) conceded the race to Whitesides. The Associated Press has still not called the race.
