The Class of 1949
The class is looking forward to our 65th reunion with the theme “Looking Back, Looking Forward, Looking Good!” During Friday’s class dinner, we will be entertained by the Alex Donner ’75 h’49 Quartet. Guests are welcome at our Saturday dinner, which will be held at Forbes. Entertainment that evening will be provided by the Jim Freund ’56 Trio.
The Class of 1954
Our theme, as it has been for 59 years, will be our Oriental Hapi Coats, to be worn in the P-rade, in which we will be accompanied by an orange-and-black Volkswagen and a 1954 Jaguar. Our headquarters will be at the head of Princeton Stadium. At 1 p.m. Friday we will hold our class memorial service at the Chapel, and a class stone dedication behind Nassau Hall with President Eisgruber ’83 will be at 2 p.m. Our alumni symposium will be Saturday morning. Entertainment will include the Jim Freund ’56 Trio Thursday and the Stan Rubin ’55 Orchestra featuring Ed Polcer ’58 Friday.
The Class of 1959
The Great Class of 1959 will kick off its 55th reunion with two firsts: A speakers’ program (open to all classes) Thursday afternoon in McCosh 50 with President Eisgruber ’83 as the keynote speaker, and the inauguration of a newly created upper-campus headquarters site in the Holder-Hamilton corridor. We will, of course, feature our iconic “Tipsy Tiger” logo (which first appeared on our beer jackets in 1959) on our Reunion apparel and on placards for the P-rade, where we will strut to the music of the raucous Hobo Band and the bagpiping Kiltie Band. Evening entertainment will feature the smooth music of Joe Holmes and the upbeat tunes of Ivory Jim Hunter ’62 and the Headhunters.
A class memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel to honor the memory of our classmates, with a reception for our class associate members (widows) at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Our reunion will conclude with Sunday brunch at the Graduate College.
The Class of 1964
The theme of our 50th reunion is “Fifty Years Behind the Eight Ball.” Many P-rade marchers will carry large black balloons bearing the class logo, the eight ball with the square root of 64, and each classmate will hold an enlarged photo of himself as an undergraduate. Classmates will be wearing their new 50th-reunion jackets.
We have 12 classmates, who will speak at one of the 19 alumni-faculty forums Friday and Saturday. One forum will include doctors from the Class of ’64 discussing recent developments in major medical specialties. We also will have a book table for class authors to display their books. Members of the class will be honored at a memorial service Saturday morning at the Chapel.
Our weekend entertainment will include the Tigerlilies, the Nassoons, and Roaring 20. Thursday night we will hear Parrotbeach, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band. At Friday cocktails we will listen to a Dixieland quartet; Friday night will feature the Kenny i Band. Saturday our P-rade marchers will be led by the Mummers. Saturday night our band will be Nik and the Nice Guys.
Most meals will be served at our headquarters at the Blair Arch steps. The Princeton Art Museum will host Friday-night cocktails. Sunday’s farewell brunch will be held at the Princeton Boathouse on Lake Carnegie.
The Class of 1969
“Dancin’ in the Street” is the theme for the Class of 1969’s 45th reunion. We will be celebrating with music in typical Class of 1969 style. Classmates will receive shirts and hats with the 45th Reunion logo, and will be able to acquire other items with our signature yin-yang logo. Our Thursday highlight will be the inimitable Jerry Blavat, the “Geator with the Heater.” Friday morning we will offer a campus tour with W. Barksdale Maynard ’88. In the late afternoon, there will be a wine tasting with favorite wines donated by classmates. Friday night’s entertainment will be Big Ray and the Kool Kats from Charlottesville, Va.
Our class photo will be Saturday morning on the steps of Clio Hall, immediately followed by the class memorial service. Our class meeting will follow Saturday dinner. Entertainment Saturday evening will be Ivory Jim Hunter ’62 and the Headhunters, followed by our own Charter Bus. Classmate Barry Miles will perform at Sunday brunch. The PICS program, our major community-service project, will be highlighted throughout the weekend.
The Class of 1974
The Princeton Class of 1974 is updating its 25th-reunion theme, “Stars in Stripes” (and our 30th theme, “Rock Stars in Stripes”) for this year, with a focus on the Blues Brothers. We’re getting the band back together! We’ll have black fedoras, string ties, and Wayfarer-style sunglasses. More than 60 classmates have helped plan the fun, and we’re on track for record attendance.
The weekend kicks off Thursday afternoon with a tour and reception at the Art Museum, followed by dinner at Butler College and blues from King Solomon Hicks. Friday starts with our memorial service at the Chapel, our class dinner at the boathouse, and music from the Jake and Elwood Blues Revue. Saturday includes a picnic at our headquarters, Dod Courtyard, with the University’s marching band, and a party with The Fabulous Greaseband. Sunday brunch will be at Rockefeller College. Five classmates will be panelists at various alumni-faculty forums. Our community-service project is a collaboration with the Student Volunteers Council to provide books and career reflections to children, teens, and young adults served by Anchor House in Trenton.
The Class of 1979
The Class of 1979’s 35th reunion theme is “35th and Goal! 79ers Come to Play,” blending American football and international soccer to celebrate the history of diversity and the great spirit of our class. As the World Cup begins in Brazil two weeks after Reunions, the weekend will have a Brazilian flair. We will be led by members of the Afro Brazilian Cultural Center of New Jersey, and we’re complementing our class blazer with our own Class of ’79 soccer jersey.
There will be a spirited soccer game pitting ’79ers against our kids, and we will plant our class ivy at the 1879 Arch. There also will be a sustainability campus tour and a performance of an excerpt from a classmate’s musical about “emptynesterhood.” Our class cocktail party and dinner will be at two of Princeton’s newest structures: the Lewis Library and the atrium of Frick Chemistry Laboratory. Our entertainment begins Thursday evening with our traditional talent show. The Class of ’79 returns to its roots Friday and Saturday nights with classic rock, disco, and rhythm and blues, performed by the Kevin Osborne Band and the Elektrik Company.
We hope to break 35th-reunion attendance records. Our long-lost classmate, Witherspoon P. McCosh-Wilson the 35th, fondly known as Wit ’79, has been posting on Facebook, reminiscing about our time at Princeton.
The Class of 1984
The Great Class of 1984’s 30th reunion, “Viva ’84”, will be a celebration of culture and food, music and dancing, steamy days and sultry nights, and a passion for living life to its fullest. “Viva ’84” will transport you from Butler Courtyard to 1950’s Havana. Our community-service project will be helping with renovations to Trenton’s Carolyn Stokes Preschool.
From “Big Brother Is Watching” (what else could 1984 possibly have as its beer jacket and graduation theme?), to “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” (a Mardi Gras themed fifth), “Eighty-Fore” (a golf-themed 10th), “Aloha! ’84” (care to guess what the 15th theme was?), “G’Day ’84” (Australian lifeguards for the 20th), and “84 Thanks The Academy” comes a summer night in Princeton that is transformed to a hot night in the glory days of Cuba.
The Class of 1989
The Class of 1989 is “Making the Climb, Reaching New Heights.” Our 25th reunion theme is an outdoor climbing adventure. We are celebrating the thrill of life’s adventures, how high we have climbed, and how we continue to reach new peaks. Our Reunions gear continues our outdoor theme: a performance fleece, baseball cap, and umbrella.
Whitman College is our base camp. The class dinner Friday is at the Graduate College. Right On Band, a 10-piece show band with a full horn section, will play ’70s classics Friday night. Put on your dancing shoes for 3AM’s mix of rock, blues, and funk on Saturday night. Activities for kids and teens include a craft tent, magic show, face painting, laser tag, obstacle course, scavenger hunt, arcade games, and a climbing wall.
All members of the Princeton community are invited to join events that “Give Back While Going Back.” From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, help assemble 50,000 nutritionally complete meals with Kids Against Hunger Coalition at the New South tent behind Whitman College. At 8:30 a.m. Saturday, we are hosting the 4th Annual Princeton University Reunions Run, a 5K charity run/walk on the cross-country course.
The Class of 1994
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the Class of 1994 grew up in the era of Star Wars. For our 20th reunion, “May the 94s Be With You,” we bring Star Wars to campus like never before. The class will use the Force to present our fond cinematic experience at Reunions: Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion will march with us in the P-rade, the Class of ’94 kids will build light sabers and race through an obstacle course at the Jedi Academy, and classmates and guests will compete in a Star Wars costume contest. Winners will receive a place of honor in the class contingent in the P-rade.
Costumes include light sabers, Jedi robes, Yoda ears, and Princess Leia buns for the kids. We’ll host two screenings of Star Wars Friday (one open to the public), at the “Cantina” (a.k.a. the 20th reunion tent in the Little-Edwards Courtyard). The class dinner is Saturday, and we’ll party each night away with a DJ and live bands, including the galaxy’s most original ’80s tribute band, Rubix Kube.
The Class of 1999
From the record-breaking class brought to you by the late, great Dean Fred Hargadon, it’s the time of your life that will last a lifetime: “Fifteen Candles.”
The Class of ’99 is turning 15 and we’re goin’ back to fall in love with Old Nassau all over again. Help us celebrate the ’80s with a reunion inspired by the iconic John Hughes film Sixteen Candles. Class members will be rocking Members Only-style jackets and skinny ties (for the men), off-the shoulder orange T-shirts and black skirts (for the ladies), and fabulous accessories in a Ferris Bueller-worthy P-rade procession. Join us in the Dodge-Osborn Courtyard to enjoy ’80s movies, plus entertainment from The Breakfast Club Friday night and from Gonzo’s Nose Saturday night.
The Class of 2004
The Class of 2004 will be celebrating its 10th reunion with a theme inspired by the movie Top Gun, “Highway To The Tigerzone.” As per tradition, the celebration will take place in the Foulke-Henry Courtyard with a series of live bands, DJ Bob, and the kind of revelry that only ’04 can bring! Other highlights include a class dinner Friday, and our highly-anticipated march down the P-rade route in our “dress oranges.”
The Class of 2009
The Class of 2009 is celebrating its fifth reunion with the theme “OktoberFifth!” Costumes are lederhosen and dirndls, plus Alpine hats and beer steins.
The Class of ’09 will celebrate in the Pyne-1901 Courtyard. We have three nights of live bands: Party Rock Thursday, The Urban Renewal Project (featuring multiple ’09ers) and Jessie’s Girl on Friday, and the Bayside Tigers Saturday. We’re also looking forward to performances by the Princeton University Band and the ’09-founded a cappella group, Old NasSoul. Our two main events as a class will be a Friday cocktail hour, followed by dinner, and our traditional champagne brunch Saturday before the P-rade.
AGPA
The Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni invites graduate alumni and guests to celebrate with old and new friends as the “APGA Creates Tomorrow Today” in a salute to innovation.
A lot is new about this year’s APGA Reunions. First, we’ve moved to the Cuyler Courtyard (former home of the 35th reunion). We will feature entertainment all three nights of Reunions, and our tent will be open to all attendees. Celebrate the completion of the general exam with our graduate students at a casual dinner Thursday, then get ready to dance during a DJ showcase. The APGA hosts a continental breakfast Friday and a viewing of the Art of Science exhibition, which explores the interplay between science and art. We also will hear from Michael Littman, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, about the history of innovation and invention in New Jersey.
Friday’s welcome dinner will be catered by perennial APGA Reunions favorite Emily’s Café at 6:30 p.m. Help us rock the night away with well-known local band Brian Kirk & the Jirks. At 9 a.m. Saturday there will be a panel on entrepreneurship featuring graduate-alumni and graduate-student entrepreneurs. The APGA tent will have lunch, games, and entertainment from noon to 2 p.m. Samba New York! will lead the APGA in the P-rade. Then say goodbye to Butler at a Butler open house. The University Orchestra concert will take place at 8 p.m., followed by fireworks at 9:15 p.m. and an APGA party with music from The Nerds.
