Tangled Vines

October is a busy time for Los Angeles-based artist Mary K. Weatherford ’84, whose work will be featured in three exhibitions opening this month. The painting above, appropriately named “vines”, will be included in a solo exhibit titled “Vines” opening Oct. 11 and on view through Nov. 8 at Los Angeles’ Sister gallery. Running concurrently at Cottage Home, a consortium of three Los Angeles galleries, is a 10-year survey of her work, “Brick Walls and Sea Life,” including paintings of brick walls and other  paintings studded with dried starfish. Weatherford focuses on the themes of mystery and mortality, and examines them through images of the natural world. Her pieces will appear in the Orange County Museum of Art’s 2008 California Biennial, from Oct. 26 through March 15, 2009.
