Cate Holahan ’02 is a USA Today bestselling suspense author and screenwriter. Her latest work, Young Rich Widows, an Audible original co-written with Kimberly Belle, Vanessa Lillie, and Layne Fargo, was in the top five of all U.S. audio fiction. Her sixth standalone novel, The Darkness of Others, will be published by Hachette’s Grand Central Publishing on Aug. 23. It’s a summer binge about a sharp female psychiatrist whose quest to find and clear her missing best friend of murder leads to the discovery of deadly secrets in her community and, just maybe, in her own home.

Here are three books she’s stuffing into her beach bag.

Like a Sister

By Kellye Garrett

Garrett’s debut novel won some of crime fiction’s most prestigious honors including the Agatha, Anthony, and the Independent Publisher “IPPY” awards for best first novel. She ups the ante in her new thriller about a disgraced Black reality TV star found dead in the Bronx of a suspected overdose and the woman’s half-sister’s journey to find justice, even if it means untangling family skeletons that some would kill to keep buried.

My Darling Husband

By Kimberly Belle

Internationally bestselling author Kimberly Belle’s latest, about a home invasion that upends the lives of a seemingly happily married couple, is domestic suspense at its best: Secrets, lies, and a life-or-death situation that isn’t what it seems on the surface. A fast-paced page-turner perfect for poolside reading.

The House Across the Lake

By Riley Sager
New York Times bestselling author Riley Sager is known for thrillers that make eyes widen with horror and fingers tremble as they turn the page. He devises surprise twists that somehow make perfect sense. His upcoming novel, which was just released June 21, promises to do all that and more.
