Yuan Wang ’17 will receive $40,000 from former hedge-fund manager and drug-company CEO Martin Shkreli after correctly solving a geometry proof posed by Shkreli during his April 28 lecture at the University.

At the start of his talk, sponsored by the Student Corporate Finance Club, Shkreli presented the proof and promised to pay the tuition of any student who could solve it. Numerous students offered solutions to Shkreli.

Wang said he will use the money to work on his aquatic drone startup, American Marine Research Co., which develops autonomous drones designed to control invasive species.

Jury selection began today in Brooklyn for Shkreli’s trail on federal charges of securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy.
