In 1949 an aviation engineer and his wife decided to leave “civilization” and seek a simpler life on an unin habited island off the Maine coast. Blanchard explores the life of this couple, drawing on Nan Kellam’s journal, an unpublished manuscript the couple wrote about their adventure, and their letters and correspondence.
