Fred died Aug. 19, 2020, in Moorestown, N.J.

He was born in nearby Mount Holly and graduated from the Mount Holly High School, where he was an all-state basketball and football player before coming to Princeton. He played offensive tackle on the undefeated Princeton football team of 1951 and was a member of Tiger Inn. He majored in history and wrote his thesis on “Japanese-American Relations Post World War I.”

After graduation Fred served two years in the Army as a communications specialist stationed in Germany and “protecting the beer gardens.” Returning to the United States, Fred was recruited by IBM and learned to program the early house-sized computers before earning a law degree from Rutgers and serving a stint as a Burlington County prosecutor. Fred then started his own legal practice and continued to serve the local community in that capacity for 50 years.

Fred is survived by his three sons, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
