Boyce A. Fincher Jr. ’59

Body

A heart attack while mountain biking in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains claimed Royce on July 5, 2009.

Royce attended Newman School in his hometown of New Orleans, serving on the student council and playing football.

At Princeton he majored in religion, ate at Tower Club, served on Orange Key, and joined the Pre-Law Society and Army ROTC. And no one can forget his acrobatic displays in Palmer Stadium as a football cheerleader!

Royce graduated from Tulane Law School in 1962, taking time from his studies to marry Janet Dickie. After graduation, Royce served two years in the Army in Orleans, France.

Following his discharge he returned to New Orleans, taking a position as an assistant district attorney. In 1966 he and Jan moved to Laplace, La., where Royce became a partner in the firm of Gross & Fincher.

Royce returned to academia to earn a master’s degree from Northwestern in 1970, then moved his family to California. A second master’s degree from Sacramento State followed in 1994.

Mountain biking, travel, and volunteering as a producer and news broadcaster at a

local radio station occupied Royce’s time in retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, and his children, Renee and Royce III. Condolences have been sent.
