Duff S. Allen Jr. ’49

Duff Allen died Oct. 20, 2009, at the age of 80.  

He prepared for Princeton at John Burroughs School in St. Louis. At Princeton he majored in chemistry. Duff was a member of the Glee Club, Outing Club, Chemistry Club, Catholic Club, and Tower Club.

After graduation, Duff earned a doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He was employed in pharmaceutical research at Lederle Labs for more than 30 years, retiring as head of the medical research division.  

A longtime resident of Greenwich, Conn., he moved to Falmouth, Mass., where he devoted himself to his glass-collecting passion. He served on the board of the Sandwich Glass Museum and was co-manager of the Westchester Glass Show, one of the premier glass events in the country for many years. He was also an avid environmentalist.

Duff was predeceased by his first wife, Iris, with whom he had three children. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary; his son, Duff S. III; two daughters, Cori and Tana; and two grandchildren. The class extends sincere sympathy to them on their loss.
