Ev died May 18, 2014, at his home in Roland Park, Md.

He grew up in Riderwood, Ala., where his family had a successful lumber business. The family moved to Baltimore, where Ev attended Gilman School.

After graduating from Gilman, he joined the Army Air Corps in Texas, where he trained to become a navigator. When the war ended, he received an early discharge and began his studies at Princeton, majoring in economics. Ev graduated in June 1949.  

He joined the Equitable Trust Bank in Baltimore, where he became a vice president in the trust division. In 1979, Ev retired to take care of a family member who died in 1983. During retirement, he devoted most of his time to taking care of family investments. Ev also became very involved in horse racing in the United States and Europe.

He is survived by his daughter, Hilary; son Everett; and three grandchildren.
