George Arthur Congdon Jr. ’45

Body

He entered Princeton from Richmond Hill High School in the New York City suburb of Forest Hills and joined Key and Seal. His Princeton career was interrupted by service in the Navy, during which he saw combat as commanding officer of an amphibious attack transport at Guadalcanal and Okinawa.

After graduating from Princeton in 1948, George joined Dow Corning in New York and was transferred to its headquarters in Midland, Mich. In 1960, George married Betty Bonbrake, also from Forest Hills.

In our 50th yearbook, George wrote that he retired from Dow Corning after 40 years of service and concentrated on lowering his golf handicap.

In addition to Betty, he is survived by sons George III, Michael, and Patrick, and by four grandchildren. A daughter, Mary Beth, predeceased him. The class extends its sympathy to the family.
