Hampton G. Silcox III ’36

Hampton died of Alzheimer’s disease April 27, 2011, in Worcester Township, Pa.  

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Jenkintown, Pa., Hampton came to Princeton from William Penn Charter School. He was a member of the 1935 undefeated national championship lacrosse team, ROTC, and Charter Club. He majored in politics, graduating with honors. He roomed with William Harrison.  

In 1940, Hampton married Sarah Jane Wilder, who was his wife for more than 60 years. During World War II, Hampton served as an Army field artillery instructor and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war, he joined Beemer Engineering Co., rising to the position of vice president before his 1988 retirement. He was a member of the American Powder Metallurgy Institute.  

Hampton was an avid golfer into his 80s and served several terms as president of Manufacturers Golf and Country Club in Fort Washington, Pa.  

Predeceased by Sarah Jane, he is survived by a daughter, Marcia Silcox Crockett; a son, Hampton IV; five grandchildren, including Debra Crockett ’89 and Todd Crockett ’92; and nine great-grandchildren.
