Hugh Halff Jr. ’57

Body

Hugh died July 4, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas, his lifelong home. He was not happy at Princeton and left during his sophomore year for the University of Texas.

He had a varied and successful career in radio and TV plus other enterprises, including Southland Industries, Blanco Oil, Glastron Boat Co., and Superior Pontiac, all of which he headed.

Hugh raced cars and boats, loved the outdoors, and excelled in fishing and hunting. Later he became interested in art. Active in the community, he served 20 years with the San Antonio Medical Foundation and the San Antonio River Authority, supported Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the San Antonio Museum of Art, and joined many clubs.

To his wife, Marie; son Hugh; daughter Stephanie; and granddaughters Catherine and Ashley, the class extends its condolences.
