Judiah Higgins ’54

Jud was born in New Castle, Pa., and graduated from Tabor Academy. At Princeton, he majored in English, sang in the choir, and was a member of Elm Club. Jud loved his literature professors — William Arrowsmith, Northrop Frye, Richard Blackmur, and Larry Thompson — and he never forgot what he learned from them. After graduation he attended the University of Grenoble in France.

His career was as an insurance analyst at Shelby Cullom Davis & Co., Eastman Dillon, and the Bank of New York, and as an investment banker at Lazard New York and Tucker Anthony Inc. In his later life, he was a real-estate developer in Austin, Texas.

Jud loved literature and classical music and was a great storyteller. He enjoyed sharing his breathtaking knowledge with friends and family, who delighted in his original mind, warmth, and great sense of humor. He illuminated everyone he knew.

Jud’s marriages to Judith Hillery and June Hellen Muller ended in divorce. He also was married to Barbara Ann Morse who predeceased him. He is survived by his sons, Ned and Thomas, and his brother, James ’52. Jud’s father, uncle, and two cousins attended Princeton as well. The class extends its sympathy to the family.
