Oscar P. Hampton ’55

Body

With his family at his side, Bud Hampton, a remarkable, giving man, died May 28, 2011, after a brief illness. He was 77.

Bud was born in St. Louis on Dec. 24, 1933, to Dr. Oscar P. Hampton Jr. and Thelma Hampton. Bud attended John Burroughs School and Princeton before serving honorably in the Army Medical Corps in Stuttgart, Germany. His 43-year successful financial career in the St. Louis offices of Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Paine Webber, and Kidder Peabody was enhanced by his integrity, drive, charity, faith, and humor.

Generous, sarcastic, and quick-witted as he was, Bud had his own little ministry. He enjoyed helping others — giving not only gifts, but his support and advice. Proud of his family and their interests, accomplishments, and activities, Bud was a big fan of the little guy and took pride in making a difference of any kind.

In his treasured summer home in Macatawa, Mich., Bud enjoyed his grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of giving, kindness, compassion, thoughtfulness, and love.

Bud is survived by his wife, Suzanne Collins Hampton; children Cheri, Matthew, Michael, and Thomas; grandchildren Rachel and Rebecca Sorey, Melissa Ursy, and Meredith, Mikey, and Max Hampton; and great-grandchild Colt Sorey. To all his family, the class sends its sorrow.
