Dick McManus died Aug. 18, 2009. He was 81.  

He prepared for Princeton at the Pingry School in Elizabeth, N.J. At Princeton he majored in biology, was a member of the Catholic Club, and served on the entertainment committee of Elm Club.

After graduation, Dick attended New York Medical College, from which he graduated in 1954. He did his radiological residency at Mary Hitchcock Hospital at Dartmouth. He served in the Air Force prior to joining North Shore Radiological Associates in Danvers, Mass., and practicing at Hunt Memorial Hospital.  

At Hunt he was chief of radiology and served as president of the Hunt medical staff. Dick was instrumental in introducing a number of new procedures, including nuclear medicine in 1969, ultrasound in 1975, and CAT scans in 1978. He retired from active practice in 1993.  

He enjoyed golf as his major recreational activity and was a longtime member of the Salem Country Club.

Dick was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen. He is survived by his son, Richard Jr.; four daughters, Kathleen East, Deborah French, Mary Reinhardt, and Deidre McManus; and 12 grandchildren. The class extends sincere condolences to them all on their loss.
