Thomas Dix Brown ’49

Tom Brown died Oct. 5, 2009, at the age of 84.  

He prepared for Princeton at Columbus (Ohio) Academy and majored in economics, graduating with honors. He was a member of the Republican Club and Charter Club. He served in the Army in the European theater and was awarded a Purple Heart.

After graduation, Tom returned to Columbus, where he lived for the rest of his life. His entire career was with the Brown Steel Co., from which he retired as president. He served as chairman of the governmental affairs committee of the Steel Service Center Institute, was on the board of directors of the American Hot Dip Galvanizing Association, and was appointed to the committee on small business affairs during the Carter administration. Tom was also very active in civic and educational affairs in Columbus.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ann; son Thomas Jr.; three daughters, Amy B. Brown, Rebecca Wood, and Katharine Pepper; and five grandchildren. The class extends its sympathy to them in their loss.
