Reshaping the Holy: Democracy, Development, and Muslim Women in Bangladesh

(Columbia University Press)

The author examines the lives of poor women in Bangladesh, who are reshaping Islam by interacting and working with secular NGOs, the legal system, political parties, and the state. These women, Shehabuddin argues, seek not to reject their faith, but to retain and reclaim it. Shehabuddin is an assistant professor of humanities and political science at Rice University.  By K.F.G.
