Rocco Annese ’48

Body

FOLLOWING A BRIEF illness, Rock died of cancer on Dec. 1, 1989, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rock grew up in Cranford and came to Princeton following his freshman year in the V-5 program at Drew Univ. At Princeton he roomed with Whitey Meyer and was a member of Tower Club, where he was active in inter-club sports. Rock majored in economics and received his degree in Feb. 1948. At the same time he was awarded an N.R.O.T.C. commission, which enabled his recall to active duty during the Korean War.

A true family man, Rock was married to Lee Calder in 1950 and had two sons, Jim and Mark. He was fortunate to have spent his entire career with the family company, Yorke Shirt Corp., working closely with his late father and brother, and, more recently, his sons. Although the business was sold to Hartmarx Corp. in 1986, Rock remained active as president until his death.

Rock, who was one of our most likeable classmates, was active in Class affairs, attended most of our reunions and functions, and will be remembered as creator of our 25th reunion uniforms. Although he lived in Westfield, N.J., for 38 years, Rock truly enjoyed the summer weekends at his Nantucket home, where he was an avid boater and fisherman.

To Lee, Jim, and Mark, their wives, Carla and Vickie, and to his four grandsons, the Class offers our deepest and most sincere sympathies. We will all miss Rock.
