When Katherine Milkman ’04 was invited to take part in the Wharton School’s “Iron Prof” competition in 2013, she used the opportunity to flex her creative muscles, explaining her research on temptation bundling by using the example of how Liz Lemon, the lead character on NBC’s 30 Rock, might use the Hunger Games books to combat her aversion to exercise.

Each faculty contestant had five minutes to speak and 15 slides that automatically advanced every 20 seconds, and at the end of the presentations, the audience selected the winner. Milkman was crowned the Iron Prof champion — “the coolest title I’ll ever have,” she says.
